(One of Scotland’s Forgotten Etching Artists)

Leonard John Smith was born in Aberdeen, Scotland (20th July, 1885).

Although an extremely talented Artist/Etcher in Dry Point and Silver Point, it was to his misfortune that ‘James McBey’ another local etcher of note was already making quite a name for himself and so Leonard John Smith was to remain an undiscovered talent in Scotland.

He moved to London and lived there for several years during which time the publishing firm of Arthur Greatorex Limited, New Grafton Street, produced a complete catalogue of his works.

Smith finally emigrated to ‘Toronto’ and ‘New York’ where he exhibited his etchings for several more years.

This selection of original etchings are quite rare from this much underated artist.
