Born in Hamburg, November 11, 1901

Lived in Munich from 1924-1927, became Art Director of a publishing firm in 1928.

He went to the U.S.A in 1941 working in New York as a book illustrator, met fellow artist and German emigrant Saul Steinberg with whom he often collaborated with magazine illustrations.

Lindner’s paintings have a distinct hint of erotocism with powerful robot like figures in rather garish colours and a pop-art imagery.  Lindner was a very successful illustrator for both Harpers Bazaar and The Vogue Magazine.  His unique artwork and portrayals require no signature, who could mistake the graphic genius of Richard Lindner.

Lindner died in New York, April 1978
