Born in Ramnicu Sarat, Romania -
He graduated as an architect while in Milan in 1940. He then came to America in 1942. Steinberg’s work began in the ‘New Yorker’ Magazine in 1942 and featured extensively throughout his entire lifetime. A superb draftsman, he elevated the cartoon to a fine art.
He has had many exhibitions worldwide and had dozens of books of his drawings printed. His depictions of the American scene both political and social are uniquely portrayed in his own inimitable style. Many of the artwork of Saul Steinberg has been exhibited in museums and galleries as well as numerous private collections worldwide.
He died at the age of 85 in New York.
