Russian painter born in Moscow December 4th, 1866. Kandinsky was a hugely important innovator and one of the first creators of pure abstraction in modern art. Kandinsky held numerous successful Avant-Garde Exhibitions. His reputation was to grow rapidly and his works were sought after by every major gallery in the world for this brilliant use of colours and complex patterns.
A talented musician and pianist, he always maintained that music was the inspiration for most of his paintings, he associated the sound of music with colours.
His influence is evident to this day in items such as patterns on porcelain, wallpapers and floor rugs.
In 1933 Kandinsky left Germany and settled near Paris, in the town of Nevilly until his death on December 13th, 1944. |
